Olivia Brady, Youth Programs Manager for NYC Votes, joined Way Up with Angela Yee to discuss the June 2026 Primary Election, the importance of voting in every election, and how local, state, and federal offices impact New Yorkers' daily lives.

During the conversation, Brady emphasized the importance of building a lifelong voting habit, noting that “one of the most important things about voting is consistency.” She explained that when New Yorkers participate in every election, “we are showing [elected officials] that we're paying attention and that they need to prioritize our communities.”

Brady also highlighted the connection between elections and everyday issues that affect New Yorkers. Pointing to public transportation as an example, she explained that “the MTA is a state agency,” and that voters are electing state officials who make decisions about funding and allocating public resources.

The discussion also focused on the tools available to help New Yorkers make informed decisions at the polls. Brady encouraged listeners to visit NYC Votes’ Voter Guide, where voters can “type in your address and it will tell you who's running in your district.” She also reminded voters that NYC Votes “do[es] not represent any of the political parties or any candidates” and that the organization’s goal is to ensure “all New Yorkers have access to our local democratic process.”

Throughout the interview, Brady encouraged New Yorkers to make a plan to vote, whether during early voting or on Election Day, and highlighted NYC Votes’ efforts to make civic participation more accessible and engaging through multilingual resources, community events, voter education tools, and outreach programs.
